I looked into news articles for ideas and I landed on one titled, “St. Louis Police Offer Candy to Build Trust. Residents Say No Thanks.” https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/21/us/st-louis-police-candy.html) This is in reference to the former St. Louis Officer, Jason Stockley, acquitted of 1st degree murder after shooting 24 year old Anthony Lamar Smith.
This “innocent gesture” of offering candy to children as an attempt to ease the tension within the community is completely trivializing. Taking someone’s death, and lessening the seriousness of the entire situation, is infuriating, to say the least. This genuinely left a bad taste in my mouth and so, the texture of sand on top of sweets provides that gritty feeling.
