I am very intrigued by the comparisons between schools and prisons. I layered preexisting images of prisoners, prisons, students and schools I found from multiple online sources. I researched the similarities which led me to my main conceptual idea behind the series called the “School to Prison Pipeline” social issue, which is distinct from the original content of the appropriated images.
Color Psychology is a concept that many studies took on in order to demonstrate how color may affect human mood and behavior. My series is based off of a late 1960s study on prisoners and their psychological and physiological responses to the color pink. This study formed the shade Baker-Miller Pink which is a type of pink claimed to reduce hostile, violent, or aggressive behavior.
I found the RGB Code for Baker Miller Pink through my research. I then entered this code into the color box tool in Photoshop, which allowed me to paint over the photos with the exact shade of pink.
